COPIES AND WAYS TO ACCESS YOUR LEGACY
Setting up access. YOU choose the opening date when others can access your Legacy Product (anytime between now and 50 years). If you want public to access it now, set your opening date to today.
When you create a Legacy Product multiple copies are made:
1. A tape copy
2. A personal copy for you
3. A cloud copy
4. A site copy
The Digital Preservation Trust will maintain and care for (1) and (3) for up to 300 years. They will catalog and provide access to your Legacy Product through the library, who will issue copies on request.
On the trust / library site you will always be able to find information about how to get a copy of a Legacy Product.
The personal copy (2) is yours to share.
OBTAIN A COPY THROUGH THE NOTFORGOTTEN SITE (YOUR PERSONAL COPY)
As a Legacy Product owner, you can always access a copy of your Legacy Product through your password protected account on Not Forgotten, as long as the company and site are in business.
You can access your Legacy Product any time - downloading your records, and the contents of the Legacy Product.
You cannot add anything to a sealed Legacy Product.
GIVE ACCESS TO A SELECT GROUP
If you want only a select group of friends and family to see it, make copies of your personal Legacy Product and distribute it, and set the Legacy Product opening date to its maximum of 50 years.
REQUESTING A COPY AFTER THE OPENING DATE THROUGH THE LIBRARY AND TRUST
After its opening date is reached, your Legacy Product becomes accessible on request through the library.
Instructions will always be posted on how to do this on the library site (see here)
After 50 years the Legacy Product and all their contents will become part of the library and can be accessed on request by anyone.
No one has the right to alter any of the content, ever.
If you want no one to access your Legacy Product ever, this is not the right product for you. Legacy Products are designed to become part of the public knowledge system.
KEEPING TRACK OF THE INFORMATION OF WHERE ALL YOUR COPIES ARE - ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE GONE
Legacy Product records includes:
- Barcode identifiers (for the tape in the mountain)
- Family history record identifiers (a GEDCOM record)
- Blockchain identifiers (a Ethereum transaction hash)
- Library records (a ISBN / library card number)
You are provided these records when your Legacy Product is sealed (download them from your dashboard in the form of an asset certificate and will card) and advised to keep them with your papers. You can use any of these identifiers to find your Legacy Product. These records and identifiers will tell your family where to find your Legacy Product specifically, and how to find them.
They can also search the family history records, the WorldCat Library, or the blockchain and find this information, and then get their copy from the library. So our Legacy Products are never lost.
